Percello has successfully completed PRC6000 verification for femtocells

  Expects Mass Production in Q4’09

Ra’anana, Israel / May 12, 2009 Percello Ltd., an Israeli fabless semiconductor company developing highly integrated and low cost digital baseband for Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) femtocells and picocells, today announced that verification of the PRC6000 – a member of Percello’s Aquilo chip family – has been successfully completed.

“We are very excited to complete the formal verification of the first dedicated UMTS femtocell system on a chip (SoC) in the world,” said Rafy Carmon, vice president of R&D for Percello. “We have proven that PRC6000 indeed meets all our targeted goals – low power, rich functionality in a very efficient silicon design and the lowest price structure. Furthermore, we exercised its capability to communicate simultaneously with eight UMTS test mobiles and third party test equipment.”

PRC6000 is compliant with 3GPP HNB specifications, supports eight users and offers evolved high speed packet access (HSPA+) data rates of 21.6Mbps and 5.7Mbps. It integrates an HSPA+ modem, a powerful MIPS processor, 3GPP L2 hardware accelerators, IP-SEC accelerators, embedded secured platform capabilities, a timing and synchronization mechanism, 2G/3G cognitive radio capabilities and peripherals such as embedded USIM I/F.

PRC6000 is based on a 65nm process, to deliver the lowest cost and the lowest power femtocell, and as a result it does not require any heat sync/airflow or any external field-programmable gate array (FPGA) logic.

“I am sure eight users will be a de facto standard for residential femtocells. We already see a great deal of interest from the industry about this number,” Carmon added.

As a member of Aquilo chip family, the PRC6000’s architecture enables UMTS NodeB and Radio Network Controller (RNC) functionality to run on a single die. The family of chips contains MIPS24Kc and its peripherals, as well as femtocell L1 engine (FLE), which includes an HSPA+ modem and embedded RF I/F.

PRC6000 engineering samples have already been provided to several customers and will be ready for mass production during Q4’09.
