High Speed 16-User Femtocell SoC for Enterprise and Outdoor Applications

PRC6500 is the industry's highest capacity baseband processor for UMTS/HSPA+ Femtocells.

This ground-breaking SoC supports 16 simultaneous active users together with HSPA+ data rates of 21.6Mbps and 5.7Mbps. Its robust capacity and high speed data rates meet the needs of enterprise applications, while an extended cell range optimizes coverage for outdoor applications. The only fully integrated SoC for 3G Femtocells, PRC6000 eliminates the need to purchase and integrate peripheral components. In addition, a robust feature set guarantees improved coverage and high performance, supporting 21.6/5.76 Mbps HSPA+ data rates in parallel to CS & PS sessions.

As part of Percello's Aquilo™ Femtocell SoC family, PRC6500 utilizes an advanced design to deliver a low-cost, fully integrated and low power SoC that minimizes your BOM. Using its unique sniffing capabilities and high capacity, PRC6500 enables simultaneous open and closed Femtocell functionality on a single radio frequency with reduced interference. For example, a solution based on PRC6500 can allocate six dedicated channels (14.4Mbps) for the closed part and 10 channels (7.2Mbps) for the open part. To support larger numbers of users, e.g., in a “greater Femto” application, two or four PRC6500 chips can be connected in a cascaded configuration on a single board. This scalable solution enables vendors to offer high capacity Femtocells at a very attractive price to support 32- or 64-user offerings.

Percello's breakthrough Aquilo™ Femtocell SoC architecture integrates all UMTS/HSPA+ Femtocell baseband functions on a single die. The dedicated Femtocell Layer 1 Engine (FLE) performs all WCDMA layer 1 Uu interconnections between the Femtocell and the connected UMTS devices.

A powerful embedded CPU executes the upper layer UMTS stack up to the Iuh interface as well as handling backhaul traffic using IP protocols. PRC6500 SoC architecture combines programmable multi processing cores surrounded by powerful dedicated HW accelerators, enhancing system performance by offloading MIPS-intensive tasks from the CPU.
